New Family Welcome 1st Day of School

A New Family Welcome will be held Monday, August 29th.  Our New Family reps can answer any questions you have. If you join The Lane during the school year, do not hesitate to contact them.

The first day of school is a half day starting at 8:30AM and ending at 11:40AM. Students assemble in front of the school where volunteers will be holding signs indicating the different teachers. Students line up and are led into the school by these volunteers. Parents do not enter the school with the students. Parents are invited that morning to the Welcome Back Coffee from 8:30-10:00AM. This is a great place to meet other parents and sign up for volunteer opportunities for the PTO and the classroom.
Attendance Regular School Hours
When your child will be absent, please call The Lane School attendance number 630-887-1430, extension 3, at any time 24 hours a day, but no later than 9AM the morning of the day your child will be absent or 12:30PM , if they will only be absent during the afternoon session.

Lunch Program The Lane School PTO
Lunchroom supervision is provided for students in grades 1-5 who must stay for lunch. Students who stay will sign up each day in their classrooms. Bring a bag lunch, a non-soda drink, or $0.30 to purchase milk. There is no food for purchase. Prepaid milk cards are available once school starts.
Six times a year for a fee, The Lane PTO offers Special Lunch days serving pizza, beverage and dessert. Sign-up is usually held mid-September.

The Lane School PTO's mission is to enhance the educational experience of our students by fostering a positive relationship between our school, home and community. Through fundraising and volunteer efforts, the PTO provides resources and staff that complement those provided by the school district. Once the school year begins, we encourage you to attend the first PTO meeting and check the website for opportunities and contacts. You will get to know the school, forge friendships and contribute to the continued success of our students.

If you have any questions about the PTO or would like to know about committee chair openings and opportunities, please contact one of our Vice Presidents, Jill Biegansky or Peggy Fuechtman.

Curriculum Night Communications
Curriculum Night is an informational evening, which takes place in the fall for PARENTS ONLY. The Lane
faculty is available to discuss with you the curriculum and programs that impact your child.

The School Administration sends out a calender each month by email. The Lane School PTO updates its website every Monday and also sends out a short e-newsletter every second and fourth Monday of the month with highlights, and some words from our Principal and PTO Presidents. In order to be placed on the mailing list, you must subscribe. If you have not already done so, click on the link at the top of this page for instructions.

Getting to School

Many parents and students walk and bike to The Lane, alleviating congestion and reinforcing our green initiative. Crossing guards are stationed at key intersections including The Lane and Elm.

Biking

Children in grades 3, 4 and 5 may ride their bicycles to school after having participated in a Bike Rodeo (promoting bike safety), which will be held in early September. Wear those helmets! Students must also lock their bikes once they are on school grounds.

Scooters, Skateboards and Pets

Scooters and skateboards should not be on school property during school hours. This applies to preschool age siblings as well. Due to health and safety concerns, pets should not be brought into school or on school grounds before, during, or after school. In addition, dogs should not be walked on school grounds at any time when students are present.

Driving

The Drop-off and pick up line is located in front of the school. Children should be dropped off and picked up in front of the school property along the white painted curb area ONLY.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING TRAFFIC PROCEDURES:
DROP-OFF: Drive up, drop off and depart immediately. Do not wait for the bell.
PICK UP: Line up, move up, pick up and depart immediately.
NO PARKING anywhere on Elm St. during morning, lunch and afternoon pick up and drop off periods.
DO NOT leave your car for any reason. Stay in it. Move on!
DO NOT park in the bus lane.
CELL PHONE use while in the drop off and pick up line is PROHIBITED.
INFORM grandparents and all caregivers of these procedures. They are responsible to know them.
DO NOT turn left from Minneola to cut into the carpool line.
DO NOT block or make u-turns in the teachers' parking lot.
DO NOT double park. Children should not jump into vehicle in the middle of the street. This is unlawful.
